Keeping it simple

There are hundreds of experts and websites out there offering start up advice.
 

If you decide to start up your own business I offer only the following:
 

• Family and Friends are great to get you going or when things don’t go as planned so keep in their good books!
   
• Make sure it is doing something you really enjoy and have passion for! – you will be tried and tested!
   
• Get as much professional advice as you need or want - preferably free or subsidised! – make sure you get this advice as plain and as simple as you need to understand it!
   

Remember that whatever advice you get, whatever support you get and regardless of how great friends and family are it is YOU who is ultimately responsible for how successful your business becomes including all the legal and financial obligations (unless you are in a partnership!)
 

For instance:
 

Legal obligations – did you know you only have 3 months to trade before you are required to advise HMRC that you are?
 

Legal requirements – Insurance, taxes, licences  
 

Financial obligations – how these will affect current situation, Benefits etc
