Websites
Choosing the right web designer for your website is a very crucial decision. Websites cost so much but are a necessary part of any business in the 21st Century, making this decision even more important!
It has been said that a good website can bring you more business and a bad one can drive away prospective customers.
There are loads of things to take into account and no doubt loads of experts to give you tips on how to arrive at the best decision. I have only the following:
-
You need to find someone (business) that will offer you what I call a 'Pre-website' market analysis (Website Benchmarking) - not enough of this service is mentioned to SME's
-
Make sure your domain name is registered in your name at your address. To check who owns your domain name or any other domain name click on this link - http://www.nominet.org.uk
-
Once you own your own domain name, should you have any disputes with your current website host, it will make things easier to move on – bear in mind that in most cases leaving one website host for another usually means you are likely to be getting a new website! Yes, and paying for it too!
-
If it helps apparently there are four types of web designers:
-
Website Designer– one who helps you come up with page layout, graphics, text location and colours of your site, as well as the navigation and how pages will cross-link to one another - the project manager for your site design.
-
Website Programmer – the one who takes the design from the website Designer and writes the code to make the website work the way you want it to and how the website visitors expect it to! The person responsible for anything that goes wrong with the technical stuff
-
Graphic Designer - creates the graphics for the website, including page layout, colours, etc - "visual artist" for your website.
-
Internet Marketing Consultant– will let you know how your website fits into your overall marketing strategy, and how to get more traffic and sales from your website.
The trick is to try and get all four of these skills from the same person!
Good Luck!
