'That no matter what your business is, no matter how much money your business makes, no matter how long you are in business, no matter how qualified and knowledgeable you are at what you do, the legacy of your business is in the effort you put in to keep having to restart it as things will go wrong, the effort you put in to keep it going, the effort you put in to make it grow or the effort you put in to decide when to call it a day (your get out plan)' Theo

Opportunities and what your business needs….Business Coach

It has been a while since I wrote down how my business was going.  One might say no news is good news!

The good news is that my little business got an opportunity to go from being ‘another small enterprise’ to being a ‘small business enterprise with potential’.  People now take notice of what my little business is up to.  They are aware of my existence!

That is what I have learnt since I last wrote down anything – that a business needs to invest in making itself known; known in the circles and by people who are your target market.  In my case, any woman in business, thinking of going into business or any business targeting the same market!!

So what did I do and why.

Well I decided to find a way of launching my business – a small event for 50 odd people turned out to be the biggest networking event in North London!  Over 400 people turned up and the newly elected Mayor opened the event!  For a small business I was very proud that so many people came – and actually found it worth coming to as evidenced by the feedback!  I was over the moon and thought how great if all 400 signed up to my business!!!  I found out later that coming to my event and actually signing up to my website were two completely different issues!!  More on that later.

So that is what I did – I created an opportunity for me to make people who are my target market aware of my business.  I achieved that.  What it cost me is another issue!

Why did I do it?

I did it because I came up with an idea that I presented to someone who agreed to back it.  Even though I knew as the event grew bigger and bigger that I probably was not ready to host such a big event.  That is where good friends and contacts show their character and I found mine.  Depending on what your business is, a core of good friends, contacts and customers are absolutely vital when you decide to do something big!  I also did it to prove that I could do it and add another dimension to the service I wish to offer. Yes, I have learnt that to survive these days most businesses need to do more than one thing.  So one has to find another service or product to compliment whatever service or product is currently being offered.  I did it because my business needed me to do it.

That is the most important thing I have learnt so far – that one must recognise what the business needs from what the business wants.

Asking yourself that question usually brings one to thinking their business needs include more finance, more clients and inevitably more marketing.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out that instead of turning to financial advisors, bankers or marketing companies, more and more businesses are turning to Business Coaches!

Apparently what businesses need more now is someone to understand their vision and targets and help them achieve this – a Business Coach is the new must have for businesses.  They can help you recognise or even create opportunities your business needs to realise the things your business needs!
